This isn’t really a blog post. It’s more of a faith update.
I’ve decided that it’s time to officially join our church.
If you’re not a member of a church, this may not make sense. There was a time, not too terribly long ago, when I didn’t know that you could be a member at a church.
I thought people just attended church. I didn’t know they could belong to one. This is what they mean by ‘You’ve come a long way, baby’. I have.
I grew up with all the traditions that come from Christianity, but none of the Christianity. I had Santa and the Easter Bunny, and I thought I had it pretty good. I did, in some ways.
But I realized, after I started reading the Bible and mentoring with some more seasoned Christians, that I was missing all the really good stuff.
Freedom from condemnation (Rom 8:1-2).
A spirit of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7) instead of fear.
Grace and mercy in time of need (Heb 4:16).
I was missing all those things. And, I was missing belonging (1 Cor 12:27).
So, after attending this church for over four years, I’m making it official. This secularly raised, keep-your-personal-beliefs-personal kind of girl is blogging about her faith and becoming an official, soon-to-be-baptised, card carrying member of the body of Christ.
And, you know the coolest part?
God knew he had me long before this.
I’ll keep you posted on my New Member Class, Baptism and Profession of Faith journey. For many of you, this was just a normal part of growing up. For me, it’s all new and I can’t wait to see what adventures await!
